Open Water 2: Adrift

So, where to begin with this movie. First of all, who would have thought they could take the premise of the original movie and make a second movie?

The plot revolves around 6 of the most annoying people you have ever met. They go out on a yacht and jump off the boat to go swimming and frolicking in the ocean. But, Oh No, they forgot to lower the stairs, so they have no way to get back onto the boat. To make things even more tense, they left a baby down below in one of the rooms on the boat.

Yes, this movie is as bad as it sounds. There is really no redeeming qualities to this film. The acting is sub-par, but it could be said that even the greatest actors couldn't have done much with the script or even the premise.

A film like this with a limited cast of characters stuck in (for the sake of argument) an enclosed place, there has to be tension and you need to care about the characters. That is where this film fails. None of the characters make you feel for them, none of them have any depth to them at all, and therefor we don't really care what happens to them. The crying baby that can be heard from outside of the ship is intended to build tension, but you don't really care about the parents of the kid and you don't really care about the kid itself so it does little to make you wish for anything other than the movie to just end.

This was a movie that didn't need to be made. The first movie wasn't spectacular, but it was interesting, and wasn't a bad movie. The acting was much better, the characters more engaging, and it was an improvement on everything that was wrong with the sequel.

Basically, there is no need to see this movie. If you think it's an interesting idea see the original.

Introduction

So, I own a lot of DVDs, movies and TV shows. I have decided to set up a blog to give my impressions, interpretations and just general information regarding the things I watch. I don't know how often it will be updated or anything like that, but this is it. Post comments as I am more than open to discussion and debate.

I may also include other entertainment related things, articles I come across, movies I'm looking forward to or generally anything about pop culture.
